Due to other commitments and general dislike for things that are not more girlish only Owen and I attended the Joint Service Open House Andrews 2010 Air Show!  We had a great time (minus the sunburn, the waiting in line for the return bus trip to the Fedex Field parking, the being on a runway with no shade on a sunny day and the lack of ear plugs).

We parked at Fedex Field (not the best directing of traffic getting into the parking area) where we hitched a ride on a big yellow school bus to the base.

We made it to the designated spot for out troop picture only to find that there was one other person and their three kids – oh well, thats not the only reason we went.

Owen had fun being able to climb into real life attack helicopters and walk through cargo planes and watching the Golden Knights jump out of an airplane and land right on the X that they were trying to get too.  The Blue Angels were pretty neat to watch too – very loud and if you were not watching the would sneak up on you and scare you as they did low level fly-bys.

The F-22 raptor was amazing to watch and the Apache helicopters as well.

Washington, DC Day Trip

Well I took the day off (kids were out of school starting Thursday at noon) and we decided around 8am that it would be fun to drive to DC to see the Cherry Blossoms!  So after retrieving one child from a sleep over we packed it up and headed down town.  Everyone did great considering there was a lot of people and traffic both in and out of the city.

After arriving we headed to a Subway restaurant (not the subway station that google maps was directing me too on my blackberry) for some lunch.  The line was out the door and we put a blanket down and ate lunch on the sidewalk on 9th and E street – only a few funny looks by the passers-by.

We had a great time chilling in the shade on the National Mall (not an actual Mall with stores like one of the kids kept asking).  We played Frisbee, tossed a tennis ball and Mia enjoyed playing in the gravel/dirt of course.  We headed to the Washington Monument, or the Pencil as it is referred by all the kids, and counted the flags (theres 50 in case you did not know – we were holding out from the kids and made them count).

We left around 3:30pm and sat in Tidal Basin traffic and then rush hour on 66 traffic – not so bad, Mia fell asleep.  All in all a great trip and everyone had a fun time.  The Cherry Blossoms were pretty amazing and Anita and I would love to go there again with just the two of us :-

We had a blizzard last week – known as the storm of 2010!  Dulles airport was reported to have 32” of snow – it is about 2 miles from our house as the eagle flies.  Here are some pictures to enjoy from the madness.
